Sheewwie, I’ve been busy! Five permanent beds have been built & planted, the entry and two permanent walkways have been mulched to perfection, and the green house is exploding with green growing goodness. Did I mention the new moose?
All this hard work has left me with a serious farmer tan, well if you can call what I’ve got a tan or is it more like varying shades of less lily white? Better yet, areas of more concentrated freckles? Picture this (you may need a pencil and paper to keep up) Freckle face, check, day-glow “X” across my back from my overalls, fantastic, light brown arms (Confirmed by a 15 yr. old who knows these things) and from about 3 inched above my knees to just below my kneecaps…you guessed it, another shade of less lily white. Below that, where the sun don’t shine, ghost legs like my dad! There are those dirt rings around where my socks stop that don’t ever seem to scrub clean, that should count as color. Got the multi – colored picture? Think Albino Zebra with only 2 stripes & freckles.
Wow, what a tirade. I’m proud to have some color for a change, ok? The sun and the weather have been marvelous lately. My plants are all loving their new homes and growing strong. So strong in fact that I have quite a bit more seedlings than I need… if you live near me, I’ll be happy to share.
For those of you keeping track (& also hoping to cop a stupendous fresh meal) the
Official Wildside Farm Plant Population is…..
Beans – Pole | Red Radishes
Blackberries | Salad Bowl Lettuce
Black-eyed Peas | Strawberries
Blueberries | Sunflowers
Cucumbers | Tomatoes - Better Bush
Garlic | Tomatoes - Cherry
Peppers – Green | Tomatoes - Chocolate Cherry
Peppers - Jalapeño | Tomatoes - Roma
Peppers – Yellow | Tomatoes - Yellow Pear |
Next on deck, waiting less than patiently in the green house or on my kitchen counter, these little beauties are next in line to be transplanted out into the warm, compost rich beds:
Watermelon, cucumber, zucchini, cantaloupe, potatoes precious, spaghetti squash, broccoli, spinach, yellow squash, tomatoes, hot jalapenos, and banana peppers. Yum! I can already taste Dan’s homemade salsa!
The boys have been pitching in a great deal more lately for the heavy stuff and the not so heavy stuff. Yes, Dan & Dr. W. I’m listening this time, seems like I’ve over extended myself once again. I’m on lock down. No lifting, twisting, dragging, bending, and soon, no going outside- period if I’m not careful. (Insert small pity party pout) Dan told me that not even my best bottom lip pout will change his mind. He must love me! I did however get a Hello Kitty pink water wand to use to water the plants…so hey, life’s not so bad!
I wish for you many hours covered in the dirt and sunshine. Happy growing!
